Tournament Rules
Tournament Structure
The Toronto Hockey Showcase is a 5 team tournament that takes place over three days. Each team will play 4 games in the round robin stage, after which the top 4 teams move on to the playoff. The playoff is three rounds, with the champion and finalist playing in a total of 6 games by the end of the weekend. Ties will be broken by the head-to-head result.
General On-Ice Rules
5 on 5 hockey, rub outs and pins are acceptable, while hard hits and big open ice hits are not permitted.
Zero tolerance for fighting or aggressive play.
A minor penalty will result in 2 minutes or less in the box.
A major penalty will result in a game ejection and any more discipline will be at the discretion of the tournament organizer.
Only blatant offsides will be called and icing will only be called from below the defensive teams blueline.
Pucks that go into the mesh are considered live pucks. If pucks bounce off the mesh and result in an immediate goal without a pass the call will be no goal.
All faceoffs will be hurried up.
Zero tolerance of any referee abuse.
Games can start up to 15 minutes early.
Format Details
3 minute warm-up (pucks supplied by Tournament).
1st period, 25 minutes, stop time.
2nd period, 25 minutes, stop time.
Round robin games can finish in a tie.
Playoff games that end tied will be settled with 3 on 3 for 5 minutes and if needed with a sudden death shootout (the same shooter cannot be used unless everybody has shot).
Floods in between periods (time permitting) and after games.
Helmet Rule
Players can wear a half visor only if they are over the age of 18
Neck guards are mandatory for all players
Mouth guards are highly recommended
