CHE SQUAD WINS THE OPES
This past weekend the Center of Hockey Excellence went to our first summer tournament of the 2023 season. The Ontario Prospects Elite Showcase (OPES) is run out of Kingston and attracts talented players from across Ontario. Our squad, made up of ten 07’s had their work cut out for them.
Game 1 on Friday wasn’t a masterpiece with a 7-4 loss, but the team got things together winning their next four games 5-1, 3-1, 3-2, and 4-2. Their fourth victory punched their ticket to the Sunday final. CHE Navy faced off against the Claigan Environmentalists in a tight checking game. The two teams traded 4 goals a piece going into overtime. At a 4-4 score, both teams battled hard in OT without a decision. Tournament rules called for a shootout, and the boys took matters into their own hands and achieved victory with a 5-4 shootout win.
We would like to congratulate the players, trainers and coaching staff for giving it their all this past weekend. Our squad showed very well, winning big games with professionalism and excellence as we expected of them. This is the first trophy in the cabinet for CHE in 2023, and it will certainly not be the last.
In two weeks our squad takes on even bigger and stronger competition at the Carnevale Showcase in Toronto on May 19. Our players are eager to repeat CHE Green’s championship run in the 2022 showcase. Stay tuned for updates.
